Precise Orientation of Spot Panchromatic Images with Tie Points to a Sar Image
نویسندگان
چکیده
The extraction of spatial data from satellite imagery requires that precise sensor models are used to orientate images. This is particularly important with images acquired by linear sensors, such as SPOT, frequently pointed with large incidence angles. Image orientation with pixel accuracy requires that accurate ground control points are used. The acquisition of ground control is especially difficult in remote areas, where satellite images are important data sources for the production and updating of topographic maps. This paper describes a method for the orientation of SPOT panchromatic images making use of tie points with a SAR image. SAR and SPOT images compose stereo-pairs with a good stereo intersection, from which heights can be derived. For the SAR-SPOT tiepoints, approximate heights are derived from parallaxes and can be corrected using altimetric ground control points. The method described makes use of the fact that the SAR image orientation can be derived from the orbit and SAR processing parameters, provided with SAR images, and does not require ground control points. The paper reports on a study carried out with SPOT and Radarsat images from Portugal. Accuracy assessments were done with digital cartography and field surveyed GPS data. It was possible to conclude that using a SAR image, accurate SPOT image orientation can be achieved requiring only very few altimetric control points.

A New Approach to Automatic Feature Based Registration of Sar and Spot Images
It has long been known that by combining multi-source or multi-temporal Earth observation images, the ability to detect and recognise features on the ground is greatly increased. In some specific cases models have been successfully developed for automatically integrating images from different sensors, but in general the problem of fully automatic data integration has not yet been solved. This p...
متن کاملExtended ratio edge detector for despeckled SAR image evaluation
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images due to the usage of coherent imaging systems are affected by speckle. So lots of despeckling filters have been introduced up to now to suppress the speckle. Hence, objective and subjective evaluation of the denoised SAR images becomes a necessity. Thereby lots of objective evaluating estimators are introduced to evaluate the performance of despeckling filte...
متن کاملFusion of Panchromatic and Multispectral Images Using Non Subsampled Contourlet Transform and FFT Based Spectral Histogram (RESEARCH NOTE)
Image fusion is a method for obtaining a highly informative image by merging the relative information of an object obtained from two or more image sources of the same scene. The satellite cameras give a single band panchromatic (PAN) image with high spatial information and multispectral (MS) image with more spectral information. The problem exists today is either PAN or MS image is available fr...
متن کاملStructure-driven SAR image registration
We present a fully automatic method for the alignment SAR images, which is capable of precise and robust alignment. A multiresolution SAR image matching metric is first used to automatically determine tie-points, which are then used to perform coarse-to-fine resolution image alignment. A formalism is developed for the automatic determination of tie-point regions that contain sufficiently distin...

The pushbroom scanner HRSC (High Resolution Stereo Camera) onboard the European Mars Express mission is orbiting the planet Mars since January 2004 and delivers stereoscopic imagery with five panchromatic and four colour channels. This paper describes the process of improving the exterior orientation of the HRSC which is needed in order to derive high quality products such as high resolution Di...
